When bestselling author and former Navy SEAL sniper Jack Carr comes to the Nixon Library on his book tours, he is greeted by a packed house of fans. This was the case on Monday, May 18th, when he came to talk about his latest release, The Fourth Option, the first in a brand new series.
In a conversation moderated by Orange County Undersheriff Jeff Hallock, Carr candidly pulled back the curtain on his writing process, sharing how it’s all about the story. While sharing how the story evolves in the writing process, he explained that characters don’t always survive when he expects they will. He described his writing as “fiction with whispers of truth,” saying he weaves current headlines into his character-driven thrillers. Carr describes The Fourth Option as a modern-day version of his dad’s favorite Western, Have Gun, Will Travel.
Carr’s blend of authenticity, storytelling instinct, and firsthand experience makes for a great discussion with an author who keeps readers on the edge of their seats while his dedication to veterans and servicemembers reminds us that the stories he tells are rooted in a deep and lasting respect for those who serve.
