The Richard Nixon Foundation and the Yorba Linda Country Club marked America’s 250th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of September 11 over Labor Day weekend, celebrating the nation’s founding spirit and resilience.
President Richard Nixon became the Yorba Linda Country Club’s first honorary member in 1957, and that history made this year’s partnership especially meaningful, as both organizations honored the country’s shared story, the enduring spirit of America and the strength of their community.
The celebration opened with the Yorba Linda Country Club’s All-American Family Festival, part of the Foundation’s America 250 commemoration. The festivities included an aircraft flyover, skydivers, live music from the Hearding Cats, a food buffet, family activities and a meet-and-greet with local first responders — a patriotic celebration for all generations.
The commemoration continued at the Nixon Library with a Service and Sacrifice Keynote, honoring the 25th anniversary of September 11. Ray “Cash” Care, former Navy SEAL, high-impact leadership consultant, and nationally recognized motivational speaker, delivered the keynote address.
Care, who was part of a SEAL team’s response to the September 11 attacks, told the audience he travels the country “to preserve” and to “make sure people don’t forget.” He went on to describe Sept. 12, 2001, as one of the most powerful days he has ever witnessed, showing the character Americans display when they come together. “I don’t want to live another 9/11,” he said, “but I want to live every day like it is 9/12.” He challenged the audience to reflect on and share what September 11 means to them, then took questions. Guests then toured the Library’s A250: A More Perfect Union special exhibit, closing out a weekend that tied the nation’s founding ideals to the sacrifices made to preserve them.
