New series expands annual Grand Strategy Summit to regular programs featuring leading policymakers and national security leaders
YORBA LINDA, Calif., November 3, 2026 — The Richard Nixon Foundation is expanding its role as a convener of top policymakers, innovators and thinkers with the launch of the Grand Strategy Initiative. The Initiative builds on the Foundation’s annual Grand Strategy Summit by adding new programs designed to explore long-term, consistent and pragmatic approaches to American foreign policy, grounded in Richard Nixon’s philosophy of strategic thinking.
The Richard Nixon Foundation received a generous grant to support this exciting expansion.
The Grand Strategy Initiative brings together three distinct but complementary convenings: the flagship annual policy conference, a series of focused forums throughout the year, and smaller, more intensive retreats designed to foster deeper thinking and substantive exchange.
The Honorable Elbridge Colby, Under Secretary of War for Policy, one of the Trump administration’s most senior policymakers, will be interviewed by Ambassador Robert C. O’Brien, former U.S. National Security Advisor, at the first Grand Strategy Forum on December 1, 2026, at The Hay-Adams in Washington, D.C.
The Grand Strategy Initiative will comprise:
-
- Grand Strategy Summit: The Foundation’s flagship annual gathering in Washington, D.C. now in its sixth year, bringing together leading policymakers, innovators and thinkers for high-level conversations on the defining challenges and strategic opportunities facing America, now and in the future.
- Grand Strategy Forums: A year-round series of focused discussions convening influential voices and subject-matter experts to explore solutions to policy challenges and advance the ideas shaping America’s future.
- Grand Strategy Retreats: Smaller, invitation-only gatherings bringing together select leaders and experts for deeper, more candid conversations and collaborative exploration of complex strategic challenges.
Jim Byron, President and CEO of the Richard Nixon Foundation, said: “President Nixon believed that American leadership requires long-term vision, strategic thinking and a clear-eyed understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead. The Grand Strategy Initiative will carry that conviction forward, providing a platform for leading policymakers, innovators and thinkers to make their cases on the consequential questions shaping America’s future.”
