Celebrate National Civics Day at the Nixon Library with Karl Rove for a timely conversation about American elections and civic participation, just one week before the 2026 midterm elections.
Drawing on decades of experience in presidential politics and public service, Rove will offer an inside look at how political campaigns and elections work and the role citizens play in shaping the country’s future.
Rove served as Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush from 2000 to 2007 and Deputy Chief of Staff from 2004 to 2007. He writes a weekly column for The Wall Street Journal, appears frequently as a political commentator on Fox News, and is the author of Courage and Consequence and The Triumph of William McKinley.
The program will open with remarks from sixth-grade student Logan Thielen, California’s 2026 State Civics Bee Champion.
National Civics Day is observed each October 27, commemorating the publication of Federalist No. 1 on that date in 1787. Written by Alexander Hamilton, it began the historic series of essays by Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay that invited Americans to consider the proposed Constitution and the future of self-government.
Before the public program, Rove will meet with honors government students from local high schools for a roundtable discussion about elections, campaigns and civic engagement. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas and explore the responsibilities citizens have in America’s democratic system.
