The Nixon Seminar airs live on YouTube on Tuesday February 7, 2023 at 5:00 PM PST with co-chairs Secretary Mike Pompeo and Ambassador Robert C. O’Brien.

The Nixon Seminar is a monthly gathering of senior statesmen and rising specialists in various aspects of great power competition and American national security, to discuss issues of current and continuing importance to the nation’s interests abroad.

This month’s topic is:

How Wars End: Lessons from Vietnam and Afghanistan

January 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords by the Nixon administration and the end of American involvement on the ground in the Vietnam War. The Nixon Seminar will examine the lessons learned from the end of the Vietnam War and compare that with the American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2022. What lessons should the U.S. consider now regarding support for Ukraine? What defines victory in a 21st century global conflict, and what are the forces necessary to achieve it?
